Decatur Group CASA Works to Help Kids in Need

From Herald & Review | September 22, 2019

It’s a group focused on a crucial mission — and a need that keeps growing.

“When you are not experienced in the child welfare system, you just don’t know,” said Julia Livingston, executive director of Court Appointed Special Advocates, or CASA. “People are surprised to hear that number; 587 kids are in foster care in Macon County.”

The group’s volunteers advocate in court for abused or neglected children. They also help foster kids.

The agency has been active in Macon County for 21 years. Illinois CASA has 31 agencies throughout the state. “But we all operate individually,” Livingston said. “We are our own separate non-profit.”
