CASA Volunteers
Every
CASA volunteer must complete a mandatory interview, background check
and thirty (30) hours of classroom training. This training consists of
confidentiality, efficient documentation, and the basic overall
functioning of the juvenile court system. The Macon County CASA
Executive Director and Program Director are responsible for conducting
the initial and on-going training for CASA volunteers. The instructors
of the course will certify the volunteers, who complete the training,
followed by a swearing in ceremony, by the current juvenile judge. This
swearing ceremony allows alll CASA volunteers the privilege of being a
Recognized Officer of the Court. This privilege allows CASA volunteers
to speak to the juvenile judge, in court.
After being
appointed by the judge, cases are assigned, and supervised, by the CASA
Program Director, to the CASA volunteer. The volunteer then completes
all necessary interviews, investigations and documentation to advocate
for the child.
